Functional Motion

12-week, 55 minute group class based on postural alignment and functional movement exercises.  This class has been offered at South Suburban Recreation Centers for over 3 years and class members love it!

The Monday  class usually fills up a few weeks in advance, be sure to sign up early to guarantee your space!

The class is designed to restore balance and strength through gentle corrective exercise. These exercises will also help reduce chronic and occasional pains including back pain, knee pain, foot pain, and more! Class members have said the class makes them feel: "better, balanced, lighter, taller, straighter, looser, confident and energized."

11 Week, 30 minute group class based on exercises from Eric Goodman's Foundation Training. Faster pace and more demanding than Functional Motion. Promotes deep decompression breathing, pelvic anchoring and whole body integration.

We use a combination of powerful movements, intentional poses and conscious breathing work to activate the muscles of the posterior chain. Here are a few benefits many of our individual and group class clients have experienced:

  • Increased torso, pelvis and backside strength
  • Hips reclaim their intended role as the epicenter of movement
  • Decompression of spine and torso
  • Increased capacity for breathing = increased oxygen levels (a client with cystic fibrosis began breathing better)
  • Your muscles learn to correctly support your structure and your posture improves
  • Your whole body becomes integrated and moves more efficiently

This class is designed for anyone in their teens or older. I have an 88 year old client who is has found new strength through these exercises!  All ages and fitness abilities will benefit from Foundation Training because it teaches your body to move as it was designed to move.

What the heck is MuTu you ask? Great question!

MuTu System is the definitive, medically endorsed Mummy Tummy Workout System, created by postpartum fitness expert Wendy Powell out of the UK. A proven, tried & tested solution for 'mommy tummy', diastasis recti, pelvic floor weakness & a core that isn't as functional or strong as you'd like it to be.  This class is great for all ages as well. I know women in their 20's to 80's who will benefit from this class!

Click here to order the MuTu Kit and the 12 week on-line program. The rec center will provide a yoga mat, yoga block and other equipment not in the MuTu Kit Bag.

Continuing Core & Pelvic Floor Class

This class is a continuation of the MuTu Core & Pelvic Floor class. You have to have completed the 12 week program with Stasia in a class setting or one on one setting in order to join this class. The focus of this class will be continued core workouts with higher intensity.
